"Explain Yourself, Texas" - Julius's Cold-Weather Confusion

Julius the umbrella cockatoo has questions. Serious ones.

Texas was advertised as warm. Sunny. Mild. A place where a bird could live comfortably without questioning his life choices. And yet, here he is feathers fluffed to maximum capacity wondering why the air feels offensive. Every time the door opens, Julius pauses. The breeze comes in, and so does the confusion. His crest lifts slightly, his head tilts, and his eyes say it all: Why is it cold… here?

He didn’t move to Texas for this. Somewhere along the way, there was a misunderstanding. Jackets were not part of the deal. Cold floors were not mentioned. And the idea that Texas could feel anything like winter is deeply upsetting to a bird who prefers consistent, respectable temperatures. So, Julius does what any umbrella cockatoo would do—he fluffs up, puffs out his feathers, and stares at the window like it personally betrayed him. The sun might be shining, but the chill says otherwise, and Julius is not impressed. Eventually, he relocates to the warmest spot he can find, giving occasional side-eye to the outside world. He’ll endure it, but he won’t be happy about it. And he will absolutely remember this the next time someone mentions how “nice” Texas weather is.

Until then, Julius waits. For warmth. For answers. And for Texas to get itself together
