Julius & Abbi: A Very Serious Conversation

Every household has that moment.

Everything gets quiet… a little too quiet…
and you just know something important—or ridiculous—is about to happen.

Enter: Julius the cockatoo… and Abbi.

Now Julius doesn’t do anything halfway. If he’s talking, it’s loud. If he’s thinking, it’s dramatic. And if he’s having a “serious discussion”… oh, you’re going to hear about it. Abbi, on the other hand? She showed up like she always does—ready, curious, and maybe not entirely sure what she just got pulled into.

It started with Julius perched up high, watching. Calculating.
Abbi sitting below, tail doing that slow wag like:

“What are we doing? Is this snacks? Please tell me this is snacks.”

Julius leaned in—well, as much as a cockatoo can lean—and let out one of those signature sounds. Not a scream, not a squawk… something in between that definitely meant something. Abbi tilted her head. And just like that… the meeting was in session. Julius went first. Of course he did. A series of noises, chirps, and what I can only assume was a very passionate argument about… something. Maybe the state of the household. Maybe the lack of immediate treat distribution. Maybe Abbi’s performance during her last bath.

We may never know.

Abbi listened.
Like… actually listened.

Head tilts left. Head tilts right. That focused stare like she was really trying to piece it together:
“Okay… okay… I hear you… but also I have no idea what you’re saying.”

At one point she let out a little huff—her version of chiming in. Not aggressive, not dismissive… just enough to say, “I acknowledge your concerns.” Julius was not done. He puffed up, shuffled a bit, and doubled down. More sounds. Louder this time. More emphasis. If this was a debate, he was going for a full closing argument.

Abbi’s response? A slow blink… and a small step closer.

Which, in Abbi language, means:
“I still don’t get it… but I’m here for you.”

And honestly? That might’ve been the most productive part of the entire conversation. Because somewhere between Julius’ passionate speeches and Abbi’s confused but supportive presence… they found common ground.

Not in words.
Not in logic.

But in that weird, unspoken understanding that only pets seem to have.mThe meeting eventually adjourned (likely because Julius got distracted or Abbi thought she heard food), but for a brief moment… it felt like something important had been discussed.

Or at least… something had been said.
